Andreas Mattsson

Andreas Mattsson is one of Sweden’s most accomplished and beloved songwriters. He has written for and collaborated with Lisa Nilsson, Peter Jöback, Carola, Bo Kaspers Orkester, Uno Svenningsson, Sofia Karlsson, Fläskkvartetten, and many others. In the 1990s, he fronted one of Sweden’s biggest and earliest indie bands, Popsicle, and has since been involved in bands like Sweet Chariots and Vanessa & The O’s, as well as composing music for TV series.

After releasing two English-language solo albums, he released his first Swedish album, Solnedgången, in 2016. On his fourth album, Soft Rock (2021), he presents himself as a songwriter who, with melancholic calm and wistfulness, explores his own reality—drawing inspiration from a place in the middle of life, where one can reminisce about missed loves and reflect on the time ahead.

The album title, Soft Rock, hints at the sound: it is beautiful and intimate, quiet, at times delicate and fragile, yet like a warm, comforting hug in the autumn darkness. When asked what inspires him, Andreas Mattsson simply answers: “Life.”
