Smith & Thell

Maria Jane Smith and Victor Thell, collectively known as Smith & Thell, met one another as young teenagers at a local music event in their hometown of Helsingborg in Southern Sweden.

In 2015, the jury at the Denniz Pop Awards (including Max Martin) selected Smith & Thell as “Rookie Artist of The Year”. The duo released the single “Statue (The Pills Song)” the same year. 2016 saw the release of the single “ROW” and the band were awarded as “New Emerging International Artist” at Musexpo in Los Angeles. While they were preparing their debut album, the influential American blogger Bob Lefsetz placed “Statue (The Pills Song)” at number 16 of his list of the best songs of 2016, calling it 'an instant classic'. 2017 saw the release of their debut album “Soulprints”, supported by the singles ”Row”, “February”, “Toast” and “Somebody Like You”. The band started building their strong relation with their fans while touring Scandinavia, Germany and the US. In 2018, Smith & Thell released the single “Forgive Me Friend” which became a huge success and went 3x Platinum and scored the band’s first No1 on both sales and radio. It also brought Smith & Thell their first Top20 on Alternative radio in The US. With the follow up single ”Hotel Walls” the band had their second No1 single on Swedish radio. 2020 saw the release of the single ”Goliath”, getting heavy airplay all over Scandinavia (peaking at #2 on radio in Sweden, #11 in Norway and #75 in Finland). ”Goliath” was premiered at the Swedish Grammis Awards, where the band got a Grammis for Best Songwriter Of 2019. In August 2020, Smith & Thell released ”Year of the Young”, a single that also got a lot of radio (#2 in Sweden, #32 in Finland and #68 in Norway).

Smith & Thell have toured alongside Young The Giant, The Head and The Heart, and Fitz and the Tantrums. In 2020 they were nominated for the Swedish Government´s Export Music Awards.

Smith & Thell have also established themselves as one of the most sought after songwriter and producer duos. They have contributed as writers on songs that have streamed over 2.000.000 times. Among their collaborations are Ava Max, Sandro Cavazza, Sunrise Avenue, Alan Walker, R3HAB, Molly Sandén and many others.
